2011 NBA Season Preview
After a big scare thank god (or who ever you wish to thank depending on your religious beliefs) there will be NBA Basketball. The most anticipated season in history ended with Americas Most hated "Miami Heat" losing to the 2002 AllStar team "Dallas Mavericks". Fast forward to this season and we have Arguably the biggest Opening day in History, headlined by a rematch between the 2010 Finalists. Add to that Boston vs New York, and Chicago vs LA Lakers and we should learn alot about this season on the very first day.
FAVORITES IN EAST
Miami Heat: Last year they was on Paper a great team, this Year they will be a great team on the Court. With that talent, experience, and not team Chemistry anything less than a 55 win season (Only a 66 game season this year) and a Championship will be a huge dissapointment.
Chicago Bulls: Last year everyone said the Bulls are a year away. This year they are still a year away. Outside of Derrick Rose They lack enough offensive firepower to seriously challenge for a title.
New York Knicks: Similar to Miami the heat also has alot of star power. Carmelo and Amare however dont seem to have the same Chemistry that Wade and Lebron has, and NY's team defense is of great concern. Look for the Knicks to go further in the playoffs but not far enough.
Boston Celtics: With Jeff green out for the season, and Rondo on the trading block (for some stupid reason) the Celtics need to start building for the future, because their aging "Big 3" wont seem so big for much longer. With that being said they still have one of the most aggressive defenses in the league, and that should take them into the postseason.
FAVORITES IN WEST
LA Lakers: The Lakers attempted to sell the franchise (Minus Kobe) for Chris Paul, but that got shutdown (Thats an argument for a different article). Bad News is they lost Lamar Odom, one of the most dynamic and underrated players in the NBA. Good News they still have Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum. This Laker team is likely on its last lap, so its now or never. If Bynum can stay Healthy, Gasol can play tough, and Kobe can stay focus through all his off court drama then they are still the favorites in the West.
Dallas Mavericks: They shocked the world last season by sweeping the 2 time defending champion lakers, Out scoring the high flying thunder, and out toughing Miami's "Dream Team". This season will be a little tougher, as no one will sleep on them, and they now have a Target on them. With Dirk Nowitski they will be a very strong regular season team as usual. How far they go in the post season will depend on their bench play, and team defense. The whole "Live by the 3, Die by the 3" philosophy wont be as succesful this year.
Oklahoma Thunder: The Thunder can score with the best of them, and has glimpses of being great, but seem to lack the mental toughness that the elite teams have. For the 3rd year in a row they may still be a year away.
LA Clippers: The Clippers won the Chris Paul sweepstakes, and while this no doubt greatly improves this team, they are still a couple years away from taking over LA... let alone the West.
Predictions
MVP: Kobe Bryant
Kobe plays the best when his back is against the wall. With his maritial problems at an all time high, and many analysts picking against the Lakers look for Kobe to dominate and show that he is still the best player in the NBA until further notice.
Western Confrence Finals
Oklahoma Thunder (47-19) vs Los Angeles Lakers (45-21)
The Lakers are lucky to be playing in the West. Thunder will propose their playoff greatest Challenge in the west but the Thunder are a year away and the Lakers are likely on their last stand. Lakers in 6
Eastern Confrence Finals:
Miami Heat (56-10) vs Chicago Bulls.(52-14)
Miami has too much overrall talent to be denied this year. Miami in 5
Los Angeles Lakers vs Miami Heat
NBA finally gets Kobe vs Lebron on the biggest stage. Look for Kobe to give a very determined effort, but have little help else where. Miami wins in 6
